ENTRY-LEVEL CORRECTIONAL OFFICER

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent, minimum age of 21 at time of filing, U.S. Citizen, Character above reproach. Must be able to work in a security type environment and manage stressful and potentially dangerous/difficult inmate contact situations.

  • Any combination of education, training, and experience which produces knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job and related to the essential functions of the position

Licenses and Certifications

  • Must possess a valid state driver's license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record and ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within required time frame.

  • Must be able to obtain appropriate POST CAT 3 Certification within established time period.

LATERAL CORRECTIONAL OFFICER

Start at $57,761/Year and Earn up to $87,734/Year
Earn up to $16,500 in Hiring Bonuses as a Correctional Officer

*Based on Experience and Discretion of the Department

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT

Education and Experience

  • Must currently possess a Nevada Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Category III certification*

  • High school diploma or equivalent, Character above reproach. Must be able to work in a security type environment and manage stressful and potentially dangerous/difficult inmate contact situations.

  • Possess and maintain a valid driver license. Upon hire, possess a Nevada or "border state" driver license under conditions defined by Nevada Revised Statute 483.035

  • Must be a U.S. citizen at time of filing

  • Must be at least 21 years of age at time of filing

  • Must have no convictions for offenses greater than a misdemeanor. Must have no convictions for offenses of domestic violence

  • Visual acuity must be correctable to 20/40 in one eye and 20/30 in both eyes.

  • Hearing must be 30 decibels or less for each ear

  • Must successfully complete the North Las Vegas Police Department Advanced Academy within the time frame prescribed by the department
